TARGETTED ACTIONS
« Improve daily monitoring of sickle cell patients around the world is our priority»

Your donations will enable the SCDIO achieve the following in 2010:

100 000 neonatal screening

Neonatal screening aims at diagnosing sickle cell anaemia in infancy (before early complications). Thus, preventive treatment and education of their parents could begin very early, before the age of three months. These measures can significantly reduce child mortality.

Vaccination of over 100 000 kids

Infection is a major danger during sickle cell responsible for a very heavy mortality, especially in the first months of life. The severity of these infections justifies the efforts of neonatal screening and prevention that should be developed vis-à-vis the sickle cell disease in poor countries where there lack of vaccines.

Prevention by orthopedic surgeons: donations of over 5,000 prostheses for hip prostheses

Three-quarters of these people live in countries or poor areas.
